Ways To Watch True Blood Episode

I think all the sharing I need to do is right there in the text. When I was trying to decide who to go with, of the offers in front of me, Alan was the one who convinced me he understood what I was doing with the books. Have you made any suggestions for the True Blood stories? Will any of the novels be a basis for an episode? The pilot episode is Chapter One of Book One, “Dead Until Dark.” The plan now is to follow the books chronologically.

Case in point, the HBO series True Blood, which you can catch weekly courtesy of a satellite TV subscription (if you don’t have satellite TV yet, what are you waiting for?). True Blood is based on the Sookie Stackhouse series penned by Southern author Charlaine Harris. The books detail the life of Sookie, not a vampire, but a telepathic bar maid who false in love with a fang toothed undead. Sookie inhabits the fictional town of Le Bon Temps, Louisiana. The good times aren’t what you’d expect them to be. The town is populated by all sorts of ghouls and goblins and witches and fairies and vampires of course. The novels are romantic in nature: supernatural love that blows across an otherwise normal small town. The books have led the way to a TV series, created by Alan Ball, the genius behind Six Feet Under (another satellite TV gem). It takes Harris’ inventions, such as synthetic blood (a Japanese invention as it were) that allows vamps to hang out in the open just like real humans, and a bar called Fangstasia which draws a camp of humans who like to get it on with the undead.

The appearance of Jessica, now living with Bill, has also turned on a more comedic side to Bill. Who knew he recycles?! She should also be an interesting foil to Sookie who’s relationship with Bill at least seems to have matured a little as they seem more able to withstand hurdles like oh, say, your boyfriend killing off your pervy uncle.

A colorful assortment of characters fills out the cast: The owner of the restaurant which serves as a central setting of the show is also a shapeshifter. Sookie’s brother Jason is accused of murder, falls in with an anti-vampire hate group, and becomes addicted to vampire blood, whose powerful effects as an opiate have made it popular amongst recreational users. His dealer, Nelsan, is a gay prostitute and drug dealer. The town’s detective gets neither love nor respect from the town’s residents and ends up accused of murder himself.

Since I never read the books, all I knew of this series is what I heard in passing–basically Sookie, Bill and Eric. Many heated discussions detailing the merits of Bill over Eric, and vice versa. Followed by the inevitable “Is Sookie is really hot enough to attract so much attention?”
